People tend to unwatch me most on Tumblr when I post cockroach-related things. That’s fine, I understand, even though it should be obvious that I’m a fan of them and make posts about them all the time… perhaps they didn’t notice.

I’ve had people leave comments on my insect (specifically cockroach-related) photography where they ignore the photo itself and just ramble on and on about how they killed this one huge roach in their room. That’s fine; it’s rude, but people just don’t know any better sometimes and they act on impulse when they’re grossed out.

I’ve had people come into my home, knowing the pets I have, and wind up freaking out about them and I’ve had people refuse to visit me, just knowing that there are roaches kept in a glass tank in a room they won’t even be going into. That’s fine; it makes me sad but people have their phobias and I’ve no right to judge how extreme their phobia may be or guilt trip them about it.

I’ve had people say, “oh what a pretty tattoo! What’s it of, a beetle?” when they can see my roach tattoo peeking out the top of my collar, and when I show them the rest, and they see it’s a different insect, suddenly the tattoo is disgusting and no longer pretty because of what it is. Then they give me “that look” of “why?” which is fine; to each their own, I think Tweety bird tattoos are stupid looking, everyone has opinions…

But shit like this actually really… kinda hurts. This girl is likely just another young, sheltered, shallow girl only on YouTube to watch makeup tutorials and One Direction videos. I shouldn’t give two shits. But this is like, the third comment I’ve received so far on THIS video actually saying I deserve to die, and one of countless comments I get -daily- that I don’t approve and thus can’t be seen that otherwise talk to me as if I’m some disgusting, crazy bitch only posting roach videos for shock value. I honestly can’t comprehend what can make a person feel legitimate HATE towards another human being for recording a video of the rarely-seen act of a perfectly clean, natural animal giving birth. It’s okay to find it gross, but jesus, keep it to yourself or at least try and pretend to be humane and decent about it.

So here’s an example of a “Rat Fix” from the aptly named Rat Farm homestead.

The first photo is what happens when you try to do something like “everybody else does” (i.e., like you see in magazines and whatnot). The hanging feed and water dispensers were expensive, they were not not impervious to spills and soiling as advertised, they were really annoying to hang up when chickens were swarming (especially in the cramped A-frame coop), hard to clean because of the size and multiple pieces, flimsy (they both broke). Not to mention the inverted waterer was a thing of sadistic design when trying to carry to the coop and flip over in the dead of winter. I ended up drenched many many times.

The second picture is an old food-grade three gallon bucket in an old tire.

A bucket in a tire solved three years of fighting to keep water clean and not unspilled. The chickens stand on the tire rather then the edge of the bucket and poop has not ONCE been found in the bucket. When they occasionally try to climb on the bucket, the tire keeps it from tipping. The bucket is small enough to be easy to lug around, it fits easily in any sink or dishwasher, it and the tire were free, and I have a couple buckets so I can swap a fresh one every time I go to the coop. The bucket is also a lot less cumbersome so I don’t spill it all over myself and can carry it with one hand or while lugging around a baby. If it freezes in the winter I just swap it out with a fresh bucket and let the frozen one thaw in the sink where I can clean and refill it for next time. The fancy waterer was so huge it would stay frozen for days and it was impossible to get the ice out with the lid and reservoir being firmly embedded, while with a bucket you can pop the cylindrical ice chunk out with a little warm water if you need the bucket right away. They are also considerably more durable.

You can also see our salvaged dog kennel chicken run, this was the solution to the fox eating so many of chickens last summer.

I’m so glad I saw this. Definitely doing this instead of buying the hanging ones!

Chickens now! (Click here to see them just a month ago) Working on the coop soon, but until then I made this cage. They’re SO big. The cage is a good size with perches, but they still manage to make a total mess of it twice a day. Going out early in the morning to get the hanging feeders so they at least can’t knock their water and food over so easily. They’re so stupid omg. But I love them… they still let me pick them up when moving them into a separate cage to clean theirs and usually won’t flail; they just dangle in one hand lol. I held one the other day until it fell asleep in my arms. ;u; So glad they’re still sweet, gotta thank my mom for that for taking care of them while I was away!

Hedorah (one of my fave monsters ever) and Ulgoth, a monster from the awesome board game, Monsterpocalypse. Normally this monster’s face is actually in the section where the face tentacles come out, but I preferred the idea of his head being the giant bulge covered in random eyeballs rather than just part of his hunchback.

Omg I was looking for reference for a penanggalan and I found your art and was like "wow this is awesome" so now I've been creeping on your blog and stuff and it's so nice to find others who love insects and stuff uwu. Yeah so I love your art and all your awesome pets!!

A work-in-progress reference for Boogle. Not sure if I like it. I wanted to show all her outfits & accessories, but having photo examples looks a bit jumbled. I’d like to make a flash type thing (never worked in it) that you can click to view other outfits on her, but not sure how to do that, so I’ll probably just draw her outfits in somewhere along with her backstory/description, or at least as much of it as I can fit without it being too much for other artists to read, since it’s pretty lengthy. I just figured it was about time to make a reference that covered everything about Boogle in one image, so I wouldn’t have to link artists I commission to like, 8 different pictures anymore x_x; because, as an artist myself, I know how damned stressful and annoying that is.

Realizing more and more that the more meaningful a character is for me, the less capable I am of making it simple lol. Boogle means more to me than any of them. Can’t wait to find the time to finish this.

Happy Mother’s Day to my mom… a cheerful, strong, tolerant, accepting, understanding, kind, hard-working, genuine, sharp-witted, beautiful person. My best friend. We’ve kind-of grown up together and learned from each other the past near-29 years, and we’ve gone through a hell of a lot together. I wish every person could have had the kind of mother I have. She’s half of why I am who I am, and is so many things I strive to be. I treasure every moment with her and appreciate everything she’s done for me so much. Since I just got home from visiting Farore, I didn’t have time to do much, so this is just a quick 30-minute speedpaint for her of her favorite animals.

After my post about borderline and it’s cause/effects on me earlier, a friend has asked me to write something to follow up on it. One of the things that I pointed out in there is that no matter what, eventually, I will end up getting upset over something. A lot of the problems I’m encountering with people are that when I get upset, they do not know how to handle it.

My emotions are a lot more intense than most people’s, as was discussed in the last post, so when I get upset, it can be a very dramatic thing. Some folks have seen the loudness of my reactions and freaked out, overwhelmed by the sheer level of the reaction. I would like to remind people that if the intensity of what I am feeling is frightening for you - imagine what it is like for the person trapped inside of their own head, forced to feel it even when they know it isn’t right.

A friend has asked me to write something of a guide. A “how to help” manual for the people around me who do want to stand by me and help me handle things. This is a lot more challenging than I expected. It is very easy to outline what goes wrong in my head and what I am feeling. It is vastly, vastly harder to specifically enumerate exactly what others can do to help. I guess I will start by trying to explain what NOT to do to help.

I just had to reblog this because this beautiful friend of mine puts her feelings into words that I’ve had trouble with all my life. BPD is no fun and often causes people to make false judgments and misinterpretations. It has scared many people in my life away or otherwise caused loved ones to abuse me in ways I did not deserve simply because of the manner in which I express my emotions and all the things I need to feel safe and wanted. Thank you for sharing this hun. <3
